Bulgarian stoneware is meant for slow cooking at temperatures of up to 350 degrees. Extreme temperature changes can cause cracking and the casseroles should never be used on a stove or in direct contact with heat source.
The important thing to remember about using Bulgarian ceramic cooking pots is that they need to be put into the oven while the oven is still cold. The pot warms up with the oven. Otherwise, the ceramic would crack.
Main usage of this type of Bulgarian pottery is cooking. You fill up the pot with your preferred ingredients, close the lid and the pot will act like furnace, stewing the dish. This way of cooking is healthier than frying food.
Secondary usage of the Troyan pot is for decoration.
